Our History

UST was founded in 2010 by a dynamic group of Toronto squash enthusiasts wanting to support and provide access to a sport, otherwise unavailable, to underserved youth in the Jane and Finch area.

UST first enrolled youth in 2011 from two schools in the Jane and Finch area (Brookview and Oakdale Middle schools).  The program has since grown to include over 90 students from 8 local schools, with our first class of high school seniors graduating in 2018.

UST is modelled after a highly successful U.S initiative, the Squash Education Alliance (SEA, www.squashandeducation.org). SEA started in the mid 1990s and has now grown to 20 U.S and 5 international sister charities, UST being the only Canadian chapter. In 2020 SEA charities have over 2,500 students participating in their urban squash programs with an impressive 94% earning post-secondary degrees.
