Volunteer Board Member - (2024-2028 Term)

Summary:

Urban Squash Toronto is seeking a maximum of three (3) individuals for its Board of Directors to help lead the organization. Individuals will be elected at Urban Squash Toronto’s General Meeting in Winter of 2024.

MIssion:

Urban Squash Toronto (UST) is a registered charity dedicated to empowering underserved youth in the Jane and Finch area of Toronto to improved academic and athletic achievement through intensive educational programming, squash training, mentorship and character development.

Position Overview:

Urban Squash Toronto is seeking dedicated individuals to join our Volunteer Board of Directors. Board Members play a crucial role in shaping the organization’s strategic direction, ensuring its financial sustainability, and supporting our mission.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Leadership: Contribute to the development and execution of UST’s strategic plan, ensuring alignment with its mission and values.

• Governance: Provide oversight and guidance to UST’s policies, procedures, and governance structure.

• Fundraising: Actively participate in fundraising efforts, including donor cultivation, grant applications, and financial support of UST.

• Financial Oversight: Monitor UST’s financial health, including budget review, and financial reporting.

• Advocacy and Outreach: Promote UST within the Jane & Finch community, engage potential partners and supporters, and represent UST at events and meetings.

• Committee Involvement: Serve on one or more Board committees, and actively contribute to committee work.

• Resource Development: Leverage personal and professional networks to help secure resources, partnerships, and opportunities to advance UST’s mission.

• Evaluation and Impact: Participate in the evaluation of UST’s programs and services, ensuring they are effectively meeting the needs of the youth served.

• Legal and Ethical Compliance: Ensure that UST operates in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards.

Qualifications:

• Commitment to the mission and values of Urban Squash Toronto.

• Previous experience serving on non-profit boards will be helpful but not required.

• A passion for youth development and a desire to make a positive impact in the community.

• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

• Willingness to actively engage in fundraising efforts.

• Knowledge of the Jane & Finch community and relevant networks is beneficial.

Time & Monetary Requirements:

Board Members are expected to initially commit to a 4-year term and dedicate a minimum of 3-5 hours per month to board meetings, committee work, fundraising, and related activities. Urban Squash Toronto does request an annual monetary contribution where 100% goes to support its student initiatives and operations.
