Foundations & Grants
Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s largest granting foundations. The OTF awards grants to some 1,000 projects every year to build healthy and vibrant Ontario communities. OTF awarded us with a 3 year grant which funded the construction of our classroom, purchase of new squash equipment and uniforms, and maintenance of our facilities.
Toronto Foundation, established in 1981, pools philanthropic dollars and facilitates charitable donations for maximum community impact. With more than 500 funds and $400 million in assets, through strategic granting, thought leadership, and convening they engage in city building to strengthen the quality of life in Toronto. The Toronto Foundation helps to fund our Urban Youth Leaders program, a program created to foster leadership skills in our senior students.
Toronto Sports Council is a not-for-profit volunteer organization whose purpose is to enhance sports experiences in the City of Toronto, with a focus on athletes with financial need. They have supported our top athletes by providing financial assistance through the Toronto Emerging Athletes Mentorship (TEAM) Fund. This grant helps students with purchasing squash equipment and registration for tournaments.
MLSE Foundation provides grants to community level charitable organizations across the GTA. They develop sport partnerships to provide more opportunities and experiences for the youth in the programs. They provided us with a grant that help fund squash equipment, academic materials, and daily bus transportation for our students.
PACE Credit Union is associated with the Ontario Cooperative Association. They have a fantastic program available for students between the ages of 14-18 to participate in a leadership development program. PACE has sent many of our students the Co-operative Youth Leader (CYL) Summer Camp. CYL is a summer, week-long program where students participate in a series of leadership, team-building, and real world training experiences. There are also typical camp activities like canoeing and campfires. CYL helps students gain confidence, public speaking and leadership experience.
Slaight Family Foundaiton supports projects related to health care, social service initiatives, arts and culture. The Foundation is particularly supportive of projects that help at risk or disadvantaged youth. They have fully funded the Sheridan Summer Camp which is a week-long program at two Sheridan College Campuses (Brampton and Oakville). This offers all our students access to some of the latest technology in the fields of arts, drama, science and engineering.
Alan Cherry Memorial Fund was established by the family of Alan Cherry who was beloved by his family and friends. Alan was an avid squash player and believed in the work Urban Squash Toronto is doing. His family donated money to support two of our top students with academic supplies, squash equipment, and registration to tournaments.
